  • Overview

Humanity would not exist without trees. They are the backbone of the biosphere, fertilizing the earth, regulating the climate and water cycles, indispensable to our survival on earth. But just as science is starting to understand the true importance of this little-known genius, its very existence is menaced by man-made disruption. This film provides a science-based exploration into the superpowers of trees, a first-of-its-kind journey below the surface, to better understand them, and also the challenge that we face together in the struggle against global warming – a journey into a new dimension.

Lev Sergeyevich Theremin was a pioneering Russian inventor whose eponymous instrument, the thereminvox, revolutionized electronic music; between 1928 and 1938 he enjoyed triumphs in America - sold-out concerts, mass production of his instrument, and high society acclaim - before the Wall Street crash, personal upheavals, and waning fame led to his enigmatic 1938 return to the USSR. Against all expectations, after surviving Stalin’s notorious Magadan labor camp, he resumed work for Soviet secret services and lived on until 1993, passing away at the age of 97.

FF (aka Fuck Face)
57%

FF (aka Fuck Face)(en)

1986-01-02

FF is around three years' worth of collected footage culled from all sources in a variety of formats, from dumpsters to video. It is put together in such a way as to provide miniature, almost instantaneous fictions, confined and numerous, where meaning can occur between the frames as much as it might in the frame. Overall, the film could be described as a visual assault as well as a reference to the invasive nature of the act of taking photographs and more abstractedly with the problem of image or picture functioning as representation of some or all aspects of an object or thing. While the movements and the pace of the film are structured as to suggest relentlessness and insistence of control, the assembly of images therein serve to illustrate the nervous breakdown of the characters represented as their actions, forced into exact repetitions, lose their original expression and take on a new, more ominous existence.
