Love Wine(en)

“Love Wine” is a lighthearted, romantic comedy set in the vineyards of Pelee Island. Bridget Love has just inherited the family wine business after the untimely death of her Aunt and Uncle. The secret to her family’s success stems from a legend that the “Love family” does, in fact, make love in a vat of grapes during the first harvest. With only ten days till harvest, the media circus is heightened and men converge on the island to become Bridget’s Wine King! Will Bridget find true love and continue the “ritual”?

A Week in Paradise(en)

Actress Maggie's world collapses when her director husband is outed by the paparazzi when it’s discovered his new leading lady is pregnant with his baby. Seeking solace and healing, Maggie escapes to her ex-pat cousin’s beautiful hotel in Nevis. After a week in paradise, she discovers herself and meets a new love interest. Then reality comes crashing back in.

The video installation entitled Partenza (Italian for departure, and used in many of Croatia’s island and coastal dialects) express the global insecurity of contemporary society and the fragility of human existence. Metaphorically, they address a story about departure, waiting and separation, dictated by migrations. In the early 20th century, it was usual yet traumatic for men to leave Croatian islands (mostly bound for the countries of South America) due to poverty and hunger. One of these tragic stories is weaved into the author’s family history. The installation is inspired by the life story of Renata’s great-grandmother who lived on the island of Brač, whose husband went to Chile looking for work in order to secure his family’s future. Like many of the island’s women, she waited for her husband who, like many of the men, never returned.

The peasant girl Giselle discovers the true identity of her lover Albrecht – and that he is promised to another. Giselle kills herself. Her soul enters the ranks of the Wilis – shades of young women who died before their wedding day. All men that come across their path are compelled to dance themselves to death, and Albrecht falls into their trap. Giselle’s intercession saves Albrecht and releases her soul from the Wilis’ power.
